| Description: | The Balvenie is a traditional Scottish distillery located in Dufftown on Speyside. The company still grows their own barley and keeps faith with a traditional malting floor, the last of its kind in the Scottish Highlands. Their resident coppersmith maintains the stills and a team of coopers ensures each barrel is in perfect condition. The Balvenie's Malt Master David Stewart presides over every aspect of the maturation process. He crafts a range of single malts where each expression is unique, but all are rich, luxuriously smooth and underpinned by a distinctive honeyed character. Understanding his craft like few others, David uses different cask types and ages of spirit, to develop exquisite, new interpretations of The Balvenie's classic character. The Balvenie DoubleWood is a 12 year old single malt which gains its distinctive character from being matured in two wood types. Over the period of maturation it is transferred from a traditional oak whisky cask to a first fill European oak sherry cask. Each stage lends different qualities to the resulting single malt ~ the traditional casks soften and add character, while the sherry wood brings depth and fullness of flavor. The nose exhibits sweet fruit and Oloroso sherry notes, layered with honey and vanilla. On the palate, this scotch whisky is smooth and mellow with beautifully flavors of nutty sweetness, cinnamon spiciness and a delicate hint of sherry. The finish is long and warming. Awards:.
