Description: | We've got a great value on a bold, firmly structured super-Tuscan that fans of the style shouldn't miss! After an hour in the decanter, this beautiful wine took us straight to its coastal Tuscan home, with characteristic woodsy, balsam herbs and earthy tones. It's the result of a winemaking team who really knew how to make the most of the gloriously sunny, warm 2015 season to craft a finely woven, layered wine at a reasonable price. The wine is the flagship bottling from Tenuta Marsiliana, which got its start when the Corsini family bought the land in 1759, making wine and olive oil for regional sale. When Duccio Corsini and his sister Sabina took over in 1996, they planted Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petite Verdot, which had already proven to make superstar wines in the coastal Maremma region, like Ornellaia and Sassicaia. Their approach wisely focused on the natural quality of the fruit here rather than trying to craft a wine that mimicked other regions. While the 2015 vintage gives this wine an immediate pop of vibrant, ripe blackberry and red plum, those aforementioned earthy, herbal tones are accompanied by a current of stony minerality, licorice, and cacao all meshing together nicely with some youthful compactness. It's not all about power in that core of fruit, as there is some finesse and elegance in the delivery of flavors, not unlike in modern Bordeaux, that is key to the wine's intrigue. Driving the wine right now is Cabernet's firm, layered feeling of noble tannin that is slowly integrating into a velvet mouthfeel. This directs the flow of the wine in the mouth to a finish with an astringency that cleans the palate for the next sip or bite of food. We highly recommend serving this cool with an hour decant, and hold another bottle for a few more years for an even more caressing mouthfeel! This is a perfect wine for grilled lamb chops or a ribeye with an herb butter finish. Wine Advocate 95 Points - "Described as the "grand vin" of this estate, the 2015 Marsiliana is remarkable for its precision and definition. This limited-release Tuscan red is a well-structured blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The forest and floral notes are some of the fine details mirroring the vineyards of limestone earth nestled among the Maremma pines. Black fruit is matched seamlessly to savory nuances. The vintage is still young, as this wine is built for the long haul." |
