Stefano Massone Gavi Masera

Description: | Spring has officially sprung! Those looking for the perfect seasonal quaffer need look no further than Stefano Massone's absolutely delicious Gavi ! All at once serious and a ton of fun to drink, Massone's organically-farmed, no oak version of the Cortese grape captures all of its inherent minerality on a richer-than-you-might-expect frame that over-delivers on flavor. Being on the southern, sunnier portion of the Gavi appellation, Stefano has never had any trouble harvesting perfectly ripe, very expressive fruit, yet his wines are always crisp, lively and filled with mineral snap. The just-arrived 2022 offers up plenty of lime peel, Asian pear and spice aromatics with notes of dried putty, wintergreen and yellow cherry too. In Piemonte, this is the perfect partner with a vitello tonnato, a platter of salty, smoky prosciutto, a garlicy bagna cauda or a nice La Tur cheese. A bottle consumed in the backyard last night went down very, very easily with a salad of wild greens, apples and walnuts and a bowlful of Costco's addictive spicy pistachios. But, with a wine this tasty (and moderate in alcohol), who needs any of that stuff? A non-leaky glass and a corkscrew will suffice……. Heckuva deal and definitely case-worthy! Oh, if you insist- I'll sell you a case of $192/$16 a bottle, but that's between you and me. |
