They call these Champagnes 'Origin' : the letters on the labels explain the terroir (the villages where the grapes come from), the numbers indicate the year of the base and then dosage. This modern approach underlines the assertiveness of a new player in the champagne sector— Valentin Leflaive—which is all about transparency. Le Mesnil Sur Oger|15|50 Brut Valentin Leflaive is composed of 100% Chardonnay from Le Mesnil Sur Oger Grand Cru in the Côte des Blancs of the Champagne region. This airy Champagne with light emerald reflections is characterized by a straight and precise nose where lime and tangerine are close to flint. Its fresh and harmonious mouth reveals the minerality of flint and chalk. Its long and salivating finish is punctuated by beautiful characteristic salinity. The soils consist of flint and chalk from the Upper Turonian for Mesnil sur Oger. The base wine is from the 2015 vintage and aged for 7 months in stainless-steel vats. The reserve wine added was aged in Burgundy barrel; the barrels had been previously used to make grands crus wines from Olivier Leflaive. Following the secondary fermentation, the wine was aged for 20 months in the cellar. The final wine has a dosage of 5.0 g/L. |
