Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc Viognier

Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc Viognier

Chenin Blanc,Viognier

Vintage: 2018
Description: Accidents are sometimes fortuitous rather than disastrous. Take, for example, the experimental coupling of the stalwart Loire Valley grape variety (Chenin Blanc) with a northern Rhone homey (Viognier), consummated at the Pine Ridge Winery sometime in the early 1990's. Did anyone there realize just what they were about to unleash? How about a perennial best-seller, not to mention an absolute steal for the money. The Chenin Blanc for this wine is sourced from the Sacramento Delta, a special (if frequently overlooked) region where some old vines of this estimable grape still thrive, having survived the lamentable purge of many of California's heirloom vineyards in the 1980's and 90's in a misguided attempt to plant yet even more Chardonnay. Sprouting from these well-drained, fertile clay/loam soils are grapes which are harvested at low sugar levels to ensure both bright fruit and low alcohol. To this four-fifths majority is added 20% of Viognier grown in Lodi and picked at higher ripeness in order to capture some full-bodied, flowery spice. Fresh and lively (no oak is employed), endowed with a fruit basket of flavors (apples, pears, and citrus), here is a wine for all seasons. Barely off-dry, it's just the thing to wash down the types of fish that's good for you, vegetables of all sorts or something spicy like a Thai chicken curry. As with all Wines of the Week, it's also supremely delicious by its lonesome…a wine to drink not in hushed reverence, but joyfully and without restraint. The Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc/viognier Is Regularly $14.99. This Week Through Thursday August 16 IT'S Just $9.99 Net. Thanks for reading,. Joe Godas. Wine Director. Producer Canvas Collection is a project for art lovers, by art lovers. The 2016 vintage begins with the launch of our premium Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc. Sourced from Calistoga, the grapes are grown on gravel top-soils, with red clay sub-soils at low altitudes. The average age of vines are 25 years old, producing lower fruit-yields.
