| Description: | Concentrated, textured and complex, the 1975 Brunello Riserva holds the place of being one of the greatest vintages from the Biondi-Santi estate. The profile of this wine edges toward the brooding side of the spectrum, resting its Sangiovese Grosso fruit on a foundation of exotic spices, roasted meats, cigar wrapper, earth, espresso, dried figs, and dusty, fine-grained tannins. This '75 Brunello Riserva offers tremendous extraction without weightiness, and its structure suggests it'll be drinking for decades. Rated "100" by Franco Biondi-Santi for its ability to age 100 years, the '75 vintage, typified by a wet spring and a dry summer that lead to a perfect harvest, was called "exceptional" by its maker. Crafted by Franco Biondi-Santi and recorked in 2000, this wine is just one of three vintages--the '55, '64 and '75--to receive his 100-point rating. Biondi-Santi crafts fewer than 700 cases of its Brunello di Montalcino Riserva in choice years, and only a small percentage of that makes it to the States. |
