Dave was born and raised in Eastern Washington, where he lives and makes wine today. His parents were both musicians, so by default, he spent much time playing his\u0026nbsp;trombone. In college, he\u0026nbsp;studied retail management, and of course, played in several musical groups. After college, he\u0026nbsp;dabbled in winemaking as a side job until he\u0026nbsp;was able to land a full-time position in 1994. \n. \nDave\u0026nbsp;became a winemaker because his\u0026nbsp;Dad made wine when he was growing up. He found that making wine and making music aren\u0026rsquo;t really that different. Both require a similar approach and thought process. By working nights and weekends early in his\u0026nbsp;career, he found he had a very good palate and some natural ability at making wine. He\u0026nbsp;also enjoys the outdoors, so he\u0026#39;s\u0026nbsp;never (ever) minded being paid to spend his\u0026nbsp;day in a vineyard. \n. \nDave has always worked in small wineries, so \u0026ldquo;hands on\u0026rdquo; is an understatement. He only spends time in the office when it\u0026rsquo;s a requirement (and thanks to Angels, that requirement is less and less!). \n. \nWhat Dave loves about winemaking is the fact that no two days are ever the same. Making wine requires a variety of skills in a small winery, from chemistry to marketing, and there\u0026#39;s never a dull moment \u0026ndash; just exciting challenges. \n. \nA long time ago, a winemaker Dave was working with told him,\u0026nbsp;\u0026ldquo;Dave \u0026ndash;\u0026nbsp;it\u0026rsquo;s a Chardonnay\/Merlot world out there.\u0026quot; With that attitude. he just had to start working with Rh\u0026ocirc;ne varieties\u0026nbsp;like Syrah.
