| Description: | 5 Stars 2020 Platter's South African Wine Guide Cab-led (40%) 5-way fusion of Bordeaux varieties with shiraz. 14 ***** (95 pts) reprises ripeness & power (14.5% alcohol) of 13 (94 pts), yet great detailing & precision; generous blueberry, dark plum & blackcurrant, with toasty spice (30% new oak) & savouriness on smooth, polished finish. 93 ps Tim Atkin MW 2019 The Estate Reserve comes mostly from the cooler, east facing slope at Glenelly and is a cuvee of Cabernet Sauvignon with 50% Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Fine, elegant and nuanced with cassis, red berry and graphite notes and granular tannins. 92 pts Vinous Oct 2019 The 2014 Estate Reserve was sorted by hand, lightly crushed, fermented in stainless steel and matured in 300-liter French oak barrels. The outgoing, lively nose features plenty of red berry fruit mixed with mint and crushed violet. The palate is well balanced with fine-grained tannins; the mainly red fruit is pure and nicely integrated with the oak. It gradually builds in the mouth toward a saline finish and a slightly fishy aftertaste. This needs two or three years in bottle, but it should turn into a very fine Estate Reserve. 2023-2040 |
