Description: | Named for the original name of the vineyard that Michel Rolland bought from an Argentine gaucho with no heirs, Val de Flores Malbec is made of 100% Malbec, from 80 year old vines in Mendoza. It is from a certified organic single plot where winemaker extraordinaire Michel Rolland, believed he could emulate his beloved Pomerol wines of Bordeaux. Rich and fleshy yet bright and balanced, this has notes of sweet leather, macerated cherry and toasted oak. The grapes are harvested by hand in the early morning to lock in the freshness and then are carefully sorted once back in the winery. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled tanks and the wine is aged in French oak barrels for 15 months to add a subtle hint of oak and spice to the rich dark fruit character. Famed French winemaker and international wine consultant Michel Rolland has earned a reputation around the world for his ability to find unique vineyard sites that can produce the highest quality grapes. He has done just that in Argentina with this wine. Val de Flores has come to life based on a vision Michel and his wife, Dany (also an acclaimed winemaker), had when they first laid eyes on the Uco Valley's high elevation rocky soils and desert climate set against the Andes peaks. |
