A legal deed dated 20th of February 1703 confirms the existence of a pot still house on our sugar cane estate in Barbados, establishing Mount Gay as the world's oldest continuously running rum distillery. Our name honours the pioneering Sir John Gay Alleyne, a well-respected businessman whose dedication to quality and pursuit of the most sophisticated distillation methods, helped make Mount Gay the reference it is today. To create Mount Gay Xo, Master Blender Trudiann Branker carefully blends rich and mellow rums that have matured in American whiskey, Bourbon and Cognac casks. This small-batch reserve blend is both round and complex. It can be enjoyed neat or on ice. Our estate benefits from a unique terroir which we carefully harness when crafting our rums. Unlike its volcanic neighbours, Barbados is formed almost entirely of coral. Our isolated and untouched location on the Northern tip of the island gives us access to coral filtered water from our original well. Only Barbadian & Caribbean molasses are fermented with a combination of proprietary and naturally occuring yeasts, and then distilled using four different types of traditional copper pot and column stills. |
