| Description: | 4 ½ Stars 2019 Platter's South African Wine Guide Cab continues its rise – to 47% in 13 (94 pts), with merlot, cab franc, shiraz & petit verdot. Developing aromas & flavours add savoury complexity to the usual sweet berry charm & tobacco notes. More ripeness & power (14.5% alcohol) than previously, with firm tannic backbone, but elegance too. 91 pts Vinous August 2018 The 2013 Estate Reserve Red is a blend of 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 15% Syrah and 11% Cabernet Franc with 4% Petit Verdot, matured in 35% new 300-liter barrels for 18 months. It has a better bouquet than the 2012, featuring lively black fruit, bilberry, touches of brine and cedar, and then mint developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin, and quite fresh in the mouth, the brine/estuarine influence returning to lend complexity to the classically styled finish. Excellent 90 pts Wine Enthusiast Sept 2020 Pressed violet and blackberry bramble notes lead the way on the nose of this pretty red, with supporting tones of carnation, spent coffee grinds and blackberry paste. The mouthfeel is smooth and slightly warm, with a crème de cassis sensation that carries through to the medium-length close alongside moderately firm tannins and a kiss of warmth. |
