Description: | Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. A simple quaffer, the 2018 Syrah Mourvèdre Viognier has notes of black spice, dusty red plum and blackberry fruits in the glass with a soft smoky, floral essence. Medium-bodied, flavors of dark cherries, plum and subtle red and black spices show up on the mid-palate before concluding with an uncomplicated finish. (am) (3/2020) K&L Notes. South Africa has always been a great place to find wines that deliver big on value, and always impress in the glass. Boekenhoutskloof is named for the local variety of beech tree that populates the Franschhoek Valley where the winery and estate vineyards are located. The 2018 Boekenhoutskloof "The Wolftrap" is a blend of cofermented Syrah and Viognier from their estate vineyards, with Mourvèdre from Stellenbosch. Neal Martin writes: "Boekenhoutskloof is another of the few wineries of this scale that has undergone a lot of investment in recent years.Boekenhoutskloof has certainly changed in terms of style in recent vintages, for the better in my opinion.". |
