Fast forward 104 years and two fine gents, Austin Evans and Richard Patrick, fired up the state's first legal still. Along with a passion for fine spirits, these gents have a thirst for Mississippi's live music, folk art and writings. When the boys aren't making hooch, you might spot ‘em at a juke joint, soaking up inspiration for their next batch of goodness from Cathead. As far as we know the term Cathead was first coined by James "Son" Thomas who was an influential delta blues musician. "That cat can play" meaning that cat was respected by their peers in the blues & folk arts community. Son Thomas was most noted for sculpting Catheads out of clay. By day "Son" was a gravedigger and by night he was known throughout the blues community as a well respected blues and folk artist. Son's Catheads often depicted other blues artists that he respected and today his son, Pat Thomas carries on the traditions of his father.
