Description: | Kerin O'keefe 95 Points - "Focused and full of energy, this full-bodied red starts off with inviting aromas of red berry, camphor and baking spice. Reflecting the nose, the savory, structured palate delivers pomegranate, blood orange, cinnamon and ginger framed in firm tannins. Drink 20262038. Abv: 15% Kerin OKeefe March 2023 kerinokeefe.com". "The 2018 Barolo Perno Vigna Santo Stefano comes from a site between Monforte d'Alba and Serralunga d'Alba that maintains slightly cooler temperatures overall. Although Monprivato is the vineyard site most closely associated with the Mascarello family, they also have extensive experience farming here. In fact, the Mascarello family was among the first to draw importance to Perno. This wine shows a rich texture and darker aromas that tend to veer toward chestnut, hazelnut, truffle and dark fruit." - Wine Advocate. This historically important producer helped to show the exceptional levels that the Barolo region and the Nebbiolo grape can reach. Today their style is neo-classical: wines that are more approachable earlier, especially in vitnages like 2018. This bottling is from the Santo Stefano di Perno vineyard in Monforte d'Alba. "Estate-grown bunches, thinned during the summer, undergo traditional-style, floating cap fermentation for 15-20 days with selected yeast. The wine is then matured in medium-sized Slavonian oak barrels for around 30 months." - Winery Notes |
