Description: | 95 pts Tim Atkin Mw 2018 Continuing the subtle changes that have occurred under Emul Ross, the Hamilton Russell Pinot Noir is now a worthy stable mate for the estate's Chardonnay. This shows the acidity of the 2017 vintage, with a fine perfume of wild strawberry and dried mushroom, subtle wood and a dense, complex, savoury finish. 2019-27 94 pts Greg Sherwood Mw March 2018 First tasted from barrel in March 2017, I was excited to get another look at this finished wine in bottle. Already very showy, perfumed and quite generous on the nose with layers of sun dried cranberries, strawberry confit, logan berry, pomegranate and earthy red plum notes wafting uninhibitedly out the glass. Beyond the pretty aromatics lurk seductive notes of peppermint crisp, dark chocolate and subtle vanilla pod and wood spice. The palate is equally seductive, vibrant and bright on the entry with the most mouth watering complexity of sweet cranberry, blood orange, caramelised red cherries and delicate cherry cola vermouth botanical nuances. Impressively elegant and balanced, this wine is only just starting to blossom. Surely destined to be a real beauty. Medium to full body, refined tannins, savory undertones and a caressing finish. Lovely tension to this. So refined and elegant. Drink now. 90 pts Vinous/Neil Martin Aug 2018 The 2017 Pinot Noir, which includes 12% whole bunches, matured for 10 months in 37% new oak (François Frères). It has a light red currant and cranberry bouquet with just a hint of rooibos in the background, the oak nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly grainy tannin, crisp tart red cherry mixed with raspberry fruit and a nicely structured finish. Fine. 93 pts Wine Spectator 10/15/18 Offers a lovely mix of gently steeped cherry, plum and raspberry fruit flavors, infused with singed anise, black tea and incense notes. A light mineral edge underscores the finish and the acidity is finely beaded. Drink now through 2021. |
