Domaine Florent Garaudet Meursault "Vieilles Vignes"

Vintage: 2021
Description: Youngster Florent Garaudet has firmly established himself among the best winemakers in all of Burgundy. And while his surname carries serious weight in the region - Florent's father, Paul, is the former President of the Monthélie AOC - Florent has set himself apart from his family by producing some of the finest and most sought-after white wines, from some extremely old Chardonnay vines (60+ years old) in Burgundy. He works alone, hand harvests everything, and vinifies solo - an autonomous virtuoso of winemaking. His inherited estate (two parcels, one from each grandmother) covers just 3 hectares. The crown jewel of his tiny portfolio is in Meursault, where his fruit comes from a postage stamp-sized parcel just below the 1er Cru Santenots. The soils are a mix of Bathonian limestone and rugged scree. His style is opulent, lush, and ripe without being cloying - precisely what you'd expect in top-notch Meursault. The balance here is impeccable, as the wine glides across the palate showing ripe summer peach and a really kind level of nuttiness. I would call this a cool-weather white; it absolutely enwraps the palate with its warmth and calls you back to the glass with its complex character. Production of this wine is always extremely small - after all, how much could he possibly make with just 3 hectares of holdings?! Garaudet has the goods, and this wine will leave you speechless!
