Domaine Sigalas "Aμ" Assyrtiko Monemvasia

Assyrtiko,White Greek Blend

Vintage: 2019
Description: Tasting notes Lemon green color with citrus aromas like lemon or lime and tropical fruits. Rich flavor with refreshing aftertaste. Rating The 2019 Am Assyrtiko / Monemvasia is an equal blend, unoaked and coming in at 14.5% alcohol. Grapes for this wine are sourced from both Santorini and the island of Paros (where Monemvasia is a signature grape). This new brand wasn't so exciting last year, but this might be the year it rounds into form. It's great now, and it has some chance to improve. Sensually textured, long on the finish and nicely concentrated, this is ripe and fills the mouth beautifully. It tastes great. It is well structured too. How well will it age? There is no track record, but the grapes can certainly age a bit. Let's be cautious. It's delicious now. That's a hint. Anticipated Maturity: 2020-2025 (Wine Advocate Review). Producer notes On the ancient plain of Oia, in the island of Santorini, the winery of Domaine Sigalas can be found. Here, the most vibrant variety of the Mediterranean zone, the Santorini Assyrtiko as well as the Aidani, Athiri, Mandilaria and the Mavrotragano are put to the best use possible, and with the proper respect to their organoleptic characteristics, the quality wines are produced which receive acclaim in international competitions, both in Greece and abroad. Technical notes Classic method of white winemaking, with fermentation taking place in stainless steel tanks, under controlled temperature and wine stay with the wine lees for 9 months. Other text Responding to the upward price pressure inherent to the island of Santorini, Paris and team have begun sourcing Monemvasia (not genetically related to Malvasia, despite the name) from the nearby Cycladic island of Paros and blending it 50/50 with the press-juice Assyrtiko that used to go into 'A/a' (now discontinued). The result, while not appellation Santorini, is a gloriously drinkable new expression of the southern Aegean from the acknowledged master of Santorini. Food pairing Seafood, shellfish, salads, white meats, risotto, light cheeses and fruits.
