The wine possesses a deep color and a dense, powerful nose, repeated on the palate with the addition of creamy, dark chocolate notes, and a singular concentration of flavor owed to its very old vines. Benefitting from an exceptional location and terroir near Petrus, Le Pin and Lafleur, Robert Parker boasts 'when Trotanoy hits the bull's eye, it can easily rival its stablemate Petrus.' Planted to 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc and owned by the firm of Jean-Pierre Moueix since 1953, the Trotanoy estate is situated on soil of clay and gravel, with old vines averaging 40 years. The wines are vinified and handled in exactly the same way as Petrus, except only 40% new oak barrels are used each year. |
