Coming to market one year later than its peers, the Giuseppe Mascarello 2018 Barolo Villero delivers warm sensations with autumnal aromas of chestnut, peat moss, dark fruit and wild mushroom. The wine is consistently fine and silky in terms of texture, yet this vintage delivers an open-knit approach and soft tannins that give it a more immediate drinking window.-Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate. Aromas of forest berry, cedar and spice come to the forefront on this full-bodied red. Structured and elegant, the focused palate features strawberry, blood orange and star anise set against close grained, tightly woven tannins and bright acidity. Drink 2026–2033. Abv: 14.5% Kerin O'Keefe. The parcel in Villero has clay and sandy soils and makes delicate but intense wines that are, generally speaking, more approachable earlier. [Grapes from this parcel] also tend to accumulate alcohol very quickly in the hot vintages, building fruit weight and intensity.
