Artesana Tannat

Artesana Tannat

Tannat

Vintage: 2015
Description: Dusty berry aromas come with a hint of spice. This Tannat from a strong vintage displays proper grip on a solidly built, compact palate. Herbal plum and berry flavors end with dry peppery woody notes. Producer Artesana is a small ultra-premium estate winery located in the acclaimed Canelones winegrowing region of Uruguay. Artesanas handcrafted wines are made with the highest quality estate-grown grapes to showcase Uruguays distinctive terroir and its signature varietal Tannat. Uruguay produces dynamic and award-winning wines of outstanding quality. Differing from its South American neighbors Argentina and Chile, Uruguay is a country of small-scale, family-owned wineries with a European winemaking tradition. The coastal Atlantic climate is often compared to Bordeauxs producing wines with well-balanced levels of alcohol and acidity. Tannat, brought from France in the 1870s, produces rich, full-bodied wines with ripe fruit flavors and an exotic, spicy character. Located on an 80-acre estate in Las Brujas in the Canelones region of southern Uruguay, Artesanas 20-acre vineyard is planted to Tannat, Merlot and Zinfandel, the only Zinfandel planted and produced in Uruguay. Sustainable, low-input, dry farming is practiced using the Integrated Pest Management (ipm) program. Vines are meticulously tended and pruned to produce low yield, highly concentrated fruit and field-select, hand harvested. Wines are made in small lots fermented separately, aged in the highest quality French and American oak, custom-blended, and bottled without fining or filtration. Artesana's small-scale production gives us complete control over every aspect of winegrowing and winemaking.
