Ferdinand Winery Rebula Brutus

Ribolla Gialla

Vintage: 2016
Description: Wine maker notes Rebula is the indigenous variety of the Brda region. It has been produced in this region for centuries, which proves that our climate is ideal for its cultivation. Rebula is best grown on sunny terraces more than 150 metres above sea level with poor marl soil and occasional winds. Ferdinand is a wine house of Rebula's. Rumena rebula - Ribolla gialla is a wine we produce since our beginnings. Producer Where our cellar is Gorika Brda (the Gorica highlands) is a fertile area between the Soca river and Friulian lowlands. In the north they proceed to the Alps, whereas in the east, west and south they descend into the well known Italian wine area of Collio. Our cellar is located in the Kojsko village. The area is very suitable for cultivating high-quality white wines. Our vineyards lie on the northern edge of the hills at 150 to 300 meters above sea level. Forty kilometres that separate them from the alps along with thirty from the coast provide very favourable conditions. Summer days are warm, nights are cool and it's these temperature differences that have an excellent effect on the grape ripening. Wines are full in taste, harmonious and fruity. Marl-based ground mineralizes, height adds acidity to the wine making it tasty, potable and lasting. The natural conditions help us to make high-quality wines. Ferdinand is also known and appreciated outside of Slovenia. Ferdinand was our predecessor, killed in the second world war and it was to honour him that we chose his name for our brand. We specialize in two types of wine. Fresh wines are offered as soon as a year after the vintage and are meant to bear flavour and freshness typical for the sort. Wines matured in oak-barrels are introduced after years of ripening in barrels or bottles. With them we try to stress the territorial difference in the content of minerals in grapes and later in wine. For this type of wine we use grapes solely from the best laying old vineyards. Story of our cellar The story begins 1992 when a teen-aged student at the high school for agriculture Matja Cetrtic took over an old family vineyard and prepared it, with the help of his family, for cultivating exclusively high-quality grapes, by 1993. His vision, to build a wine-cellar that will offer high-quality wines, was immediately embraced by his father Marjan that offered him moral and financial support and later on gave up his usual business and continued as a wine trader. The first bottles of wine were ready by 1997. Brother Iztok joined the company later and thus gives Matja an oportunity to focus also on marketing and sales. Nowadays, despite it's youth Ferdinand is one of the more renowned brands in the field of quality wines and undoubtedly among the leading ones in the field of the best Rebula wines. The Cetrtic family comes from the Highlands. Wine trade's been in the family from the time of Matja's great-grandfather Ferdinand, who at a young age died in a war. The vineyards were taken by his brother, who with time stopped being a winegrower. Since he had no successors, Matja was the one who in 1992 took over his biggest vineyard and rendered his homage to his great-grandfather Ferdinand by using and registering his name for his wine brand. Our vision is offering our territory in a glass In the Ferdinand wine cellar we produce only organic grape based high-quality wines. Since the creation begins in the vineyard, we use no herbicides, artificial fertilizers, boticides, insecticides or acaricides. We only use sulphur and copper based compounds and stable manure. All of our vineyards are grass-covered enabling easy growth and no need for mineral fertilizers. At Ferdinand we are specialized, Instead of a wide rang of different wines, we have high-quality wines typical and most appropriate for the area. Each sort requires an adequate position and we devote a lot of our attention to it. One of our main points of focus is our local sort rebula. Quality is also provided by thinning in the early phase as well as during the ripening, making the harvest smaller, but ensuring its higher quality and equal amount even in more scarce years. Ferdinand is the house of Rebula wines, that have been with us from the beginning. Our offer contains four wines of this type. Fresh: yellow rebula, barrique: yellow rebula reserva, soaked: Mrr and the sparkling Rebolium known as the Sinefinis brand- www.sinefinis.com. In our offer you can also find white couvee, red couvee, red reserva, cabernet sauvignon, merlot and grey pinot. In our vision and way of wine-making, we'd like to put our territory into a glass. We try to make wine from grape with as little interference as possible and that's why the quality of the grapes is so important. Given the fact that there are not many winegrowers around our village, that has very special pedo-climatic conditions, we are different from most winegrowers in the Highlands. Our approach to the culinary art is one that instead of giving wine the main role, keeps it there to stress, complement and enrich the taste of food. Our wines are like this and therefore different from the majority. One can find reasons for that in somewhat higher and cooler position, steep stair-shaped vineyards, typical highland soil - marl and our way of growing. This gives the wines higher mineral content, freshness and durability. Structure and mineral content are the elements that make reservas more appropriate for prolonged aging. In the Ferdinand cellar we also have types of reserva and Mrr for those who enjoy a slow evening glass, chatting and relaxing with friends.
