From Champagne

Vintage: 2014
Description: 99 We / 97+ Wi / 97 De / 96 Jg / 96 Jd / 95 Wa / 95 JS. "This always-memorable single-vineyard Champagne is dominated by rich Pinot Noir. The vineyard, a steep slope facing the Marne river, has given an intense, concentrated wine that has aged so well. Touches of toast are equaled by the rich fruit and acidity. Drink this great wine now. Alcohol 12.5%. (Dec 2023)" - Wine Enthusiast. "The Philipponnat Clos des Goisses 14 is a classic, somewhat yesteryear style of Clos des Goisses that is a blend of 71% Pinot Noir and 29% Chardonnay coming from 14 different small parcels each vinified separately with only the best, ripest elements included in the final blend. None of the wines underwent malolactic to retain freshness and it was finished Extra Brut with a 4.5 gram per liter dosage. Ethereal, floral notes of white viburnum waft over layers of ripe red apple, lemon butter biscuits, almond nougat, clover honey and toast then flow into a medium to full-bodied palate infused with a high-gloss, vibrant acidity shining a Klieg light of freshness on pure red berry fruit and citrus intensity. There is an ease of elegance throughout, and incredible length on the creamy finish. Disgorged in March 2023 and finished with a 4.5 grams per liter dosage. (11/8/23)" - Sarah Mayo The Wine Independent. "This is fresh and lively, clearly still closed from its recent disgorgement, yet it shows a vibrant depth of flavour and a sophisticated interplay between the fruit and chalky minerality. While it contains an unusually high proportion of Pinot Noir at 71%, it seems to reflect its Chardonnay at the moment, in its youthful notes of Asian pear, fresh apricot and lemony citrus. The finish is long and finely tuned, anchored and infused by that chalky intensity. Disgorged: March 2023. Drinking Window: 2024-2054. (12/12/23)" - Peter Liem Decanter. "The 2014 vintage of Philipponnat's famed "Clos des Goisses" is composed this year from a blend of seventy-one percent pinot noir and twenty-nine percent chardonnay. The wine was disgorged in March of 2023, after eight years aging sur latte and finished with a dosage of 4.5 grams per liter. It offers up a beautifully refined and youthfully complex bouquet of white peach, apple, gentle smokiness, a superb base of chalky soil tones, fresh-baked bread, just a whisper of oak and a lovely topnote of dried flowers. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and precise, with a superb core of fruit, excellent mineral drive and grip, very elegant mousse and a long, pure and superbly complex finish. The cool vintage characteristics of 2014 are beautifully synthesized with the warm microclimate of Clos des Goisses and this is clearly destined to be one of the great recent vintages of this iconic wine. It starts out life just a touch understated in comparison to recent vintages such as 2012, but this wine has future greatness written in its stars! It is already delicious, but it has more secrets to reveal if given extended bottle aging. 2023-2075. (Jul/Aug 2023)" -John Gilman View From the Cellar. "Made from 71% Pinot Noir and the rest Chardonnay, the 2014 Champagne Clos des Goisses Extra Brut takes on a very pretty and floral profile. Pouring a bright straw hue, it's lifted with the perfume of cherry blossoms, wet stone, fresh berries, and sweet brioche. Full-bodied, though more linear compared to the 2013 vintage, it's highlighted by a refined, chalky texture with a pillowy mousse, building to a ripe and rounded mid-palate and a long, elegant finish with a flourish of white pepper spice. Though it's certainly not the most powerful vintage for the vineyard, it's very attractive. It will benefit from another couple of years and continue to improve over the next two decades. Disgorged in March of 2023, with 4.5 grams per liter dosage. Drink: 2025-2045. (11/17/23)" - Audrey Frick JebDunnuck. "The 2014 Extra-Brut Clos des Goisses, the latest rendition from this walled vineyard, reveals a fresh, energetic character with aromas of pear, peach, licorice, spices, white fruits, spring flowers and menthol. Medium to full-bodied, seamless and chiseled, this is a structured, tension-filled but ethereal Champagne with high acidity, sign of a cool-weather vintage. Although already thoroughly enjoyable, it should age well over the next 10 years. This is a blend of 71% Pinot Noir and 29% Chardonnay, disgorged with 4.25 grams per liter dosage. Drink: 2023-2035. (11/16/23)" - Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate. "This is showing elegant and complex aromas of pie crust, cinnamon rolls, spiced apples and hazelnuts. Hints of mocha and berry crumble. Very creamy bubbles on the palate, with caressing pastry elements married to bright acidity. There's richness, but it's sleek and fresh at the end. 71% pinot noir and 29% chardonnay. Disgorged March 2023. 4.5g/L dosage. Drink or hold. (1/4/24)" - James Suckling.
