| Description: | Established in the mid-19th century, Buffalo Trace holds the distinction of being the oldest still-operating distillery in the United States. Named after the Great Buffalo Trace, the distillery was originally known as the George T. Stagg Distillery and produced whiskey released under the same name. Following its acquisition in 1999 by the Sazerac Company, the distillery was re-christened, and along came a new line of eponymous whiskeys. Master distiller emeritus Elmer T. Lee came out of retirement to develop these whiskeys. |
