Maison Roche de Bellene Rose Of Gamay Noir Cuvee Bellenos

Gamay

Vintage: 2017
Description: Wine maker notes The Bellenos Rose of Gamay Noir has vibrant red raspberry and cherry notes and the mineral inflection that is typical of the southern, Austral region of Burgundy. Gamay is a grape from Burgundy that has existed since the 14th century. It is now planted elsewhere in France, but it is the granite slopes of southern Burgundy, between Macon and Lyon, that the variety expresses its full potential. Producer Maison Roche de Bellene is the negociant (making wine with fruit from other growers) of Nicolas Potel, the well-known and highly regarded winemaker in Burgundy. Nicolas is an old friend of Ernst Loosen, and we are extremely happy to have him as part of our import portfolio. Founded in 2009, the emphasis at Roche de Bellene is on individual terroirs from vieilles vignes (old vines - 40 years or older) that are farmed responsibly. All of the growers that Nicolas works with are either BIO certified or farming according to the principles of lutte raisonee ("sustainable viticulture"). This enables Nicolas to consistently produce the expressive, terroir-driven style that is his vision.
