The wine is well-structured with ripe berry fruits and gentle Cabernet Sauvignon tannins. This wine is well-rounded with good acidity backing up the full mouth-feel. This little Bordeaux Superieur is delicious out of the gate yet will drink well over the next several years. It has the structure of wine twice the price, most likely owed to the superb 2016 vintage. Chateau Vrai Caillou has been in the Pommier family since 1863. It has passed down through the generations, first from father to son and then from father to daughter. Vrai Caillou wines are the result of a long family tradition that has developed alongside the estate's endless rows of vines. Christel and Philippe de Meillac have been at the helm since 2012 and the Vrai Caillou estate currently covers 90 hectares of vineyards. Christel and Philippe work ceaselessly to maintain high-quality standards, and year after year their efforts are recognized by various awards. They have been given an HVE "High Environmental Value" certification by the Ministry of Agriculture for their efforts in protecting biodiversity, plant protection strategy, management of fertilizer and water use. Some suggested pairings are robust beef, game, and lamb roasts or stews right through to. cheeses like Camembert, Brie, and Roquefort.
