Pieropan Calvarino Soave
Vintage: | 2021 |

Description: | With a nose filled by scents of stone fruits, honeysuckle, wildflowers and minerality, all of which are reflected beautifully on the viscous, weightless palate, with clarion flavors of white peach, pear and a mĂŠlange of floral notes, again with scintillating minerality kept aloft with appropriate acidity, this is the type of wine we love to recommend for Springtime and Easter. The Pieropan family has been making this particular bottling (from Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave grapes) since 1971 and are celebrating their 50th vintage with the 2021 release-- congratulazioni ! That the 2021 vintage in Italy was fantastic for white wines is beautifully serendipitous and somehow fitting. It certainly is showcased here. This lovely white has an amazing "wow" factor that explains the stellar scores it received. The depth and purity of ripe fruit in both mouth and nose is stunning, while the structure of body keeps the wine light and spry in the mouth. We, doing our due diligence to make sure these wine critics aren't pulling a fast one, of course had to open a bottle and take our own notes. They called it correctly ! This is a white wine we will enjoy year-round but its freshness, vibrance and amazing fruits pair perfectly with Spring and Easter dining (ham, chicken/poultry, sushi, vegetarian, white pizzas, etc.). Wine Enthusiast 96 Points - "The nose alone is worth finding a bottle, redolent with wildflowers, almonds, peaches and acacia honey. The sumptuous and expansive palate shows ripe apples, dried flowers and focused minerality that continues long after you drink the wine. Crisp acidity holds the wine in balance and will allow for long cellaring. Drink nowâ"2035.". Wine Advocate 94 Points - "Celebrating its 50th anniversary (1971-2021), the organic Pieropan 2021 Soave Classico Calvarino has a soft and richly textured side that is contrasted against the bright citrusy and mineral flavors that the Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave grapes are known for. This blend sees 70% of the first grape and 30% of the second, and the wine is aged in cement for up to 15 months. That's the special quality offered by Calvarino, a wine that is modern yet also rooted in local tradition. You get a lot of food-pairing potential out of this bottle, whether it be sushi or roasted chicken. Production is 70,000 bottles. The Calvarino Soave Classico by Pieropan is considered as one of the benchmark expressions of the traditional terroir of the Soave Classico area." |
