Talley "Oliver's Vineyard" Edna Valley Chardonnay

Chardonnay from Santa Maria/Santa Barbara

Vintage: 2016
Description: 94 points Vinous. Brilliant straw-gold. Expansive aromas of fresh nectarine, pear and orange, joined by subtle touches of smoky lees, jasmine and minerals as the wine opens up. Juicy and impressively concentrated yet lithe as well, showing excellent clarity and spicy lift to the intense orchard and pit fruit flavors. A spine of nervy acidity adds support and drives a very long, seamless finish that emphatically repeats the pear and floral notes. (jr) (1/2019) 94 points Wine Enthusiast. This single-vineyard expression by winemaker Eric Johnson is very supple on the nose with aromas of white peach, lychee, toasted almonds and lime sorbet. Voluptuous flavors of baked pear, cinnamon and light butterscotch are wrapped in a silky smooth palate, hitting all of Chardonnay's notes. (mk) (11/2018) 92 points Connoisseurs Guide. Leading the way in Talley's latest lot of very good Chardonnays, this one from Oliver's Vineyard is a deep, well-formed offering that delivers an absolute wealth of concentrated, very precise fruit decked out with plenty of toasty oak richness and showing a great deal of polish and exceptional balance for the substantial, mouthfilling wine that it is. Albeit expressive and satisfying stuff now, it is built to get better and should continue to grow for a good many more years. *Two Stars* (11/2018) 92 points Jeb Dunnuck. The 2016 Chardonnay Oliver's Vineyard is a big step up and has classic white flowers, pineapple cream, and toasty oak aromas and flavors as well as medium to full body. I love its intensity as well as its ripe, polished style. Picking up some salinity and marine notes with time in the glass, drink it over the coming 7-8 years. (11/2018) 91 points Wine Spectator. Buttery and creamy tasting, with some finely textured honeyed notes to the apple pastry, ripe melon and ruby grapefruit flavors. The spicy finish offers lemon meringue accents. Drink now through 2021. (km) (3/2019) K&L Notes. Winemaker's notes: "This Chardonnay is produced entirely from the original section of Oliver's Vineyard planted in 1991 and named for Talley Farms founder Oliver Talley. One of two vineyards owned by the Talley Family in the Edna Valley Ava, just four miles from the ocean, the sandy clay loam soil of the site produces balanced Chardonnay with pronounced saline notes in the aroma and flavor. The 2016 vintage of Oliver's Vineyard Chardonnay is pale straw in appearance and expresses bright aromas of apricot, orange blossom, and white peach. The palate is supple with soft caramel notes that lead to a rich and toasty finish.".
