| Description: | Sometimes I champion wines that are obscure just because I feel drawn to the unusual. But sometimes a wine that has been right there in front of me all along sucks me in and begs for more attention. The McManis family began as growers of grapes, selling to larger wineries, and they have successfully learned how to focus on the character of each grape variety rather than on the latest market-driven style manipulations. Now making their own wines, this vintage shows off what Viognier can do best while avoiding all of the excesses that can also occur. The aromas show light floral notes with nectarine fruit. The flavors are beautifully balanced between fruit and acidity. This wine is delicious on its own or pair with a savory curry pasta salad. -Roger Clark |
