| Description: | Wine maker notes Picking in 2015 began in late September with a culling of fruit affected by botrytis, some of it noble, but the main harvest waited another week. Cellarmaster Bernhard Schug reported that he felt compelled to harvest some parcels when must weights reached the point where fermentation to legal dryness would push what he and Loosen consider an acceptable, roughly 12.5 percent limit of alcohol. But the parcels for Grosse Gewachse were largely left until the third week in October. "There was lovely botrytis late in the season," noted Schug of the period when most of this year's impressive, highly distinctive Auslesen were harvested. "We just kept picking out any botrytis so that the remaining fruit could continue to hang for Grosses Gewachs.". |
