Description: | Dry, aromatic wine that's gently floral and spicy with a crisp, medium bodied finish that is brightened by bracing acidity. Mokelumne Glen Vineyard. From Mokelumne Glen Vineyard along side the Mokelumne River in Lodi, this is the only planting of Kerner in California. It was originally planted in 1998 to Viognier, and has been T-budded over to Kerner over several years. These grapes were hand harvested in late August at 22 Brix, then whole-cluster pressed and fermented with native yeast in stainless steel barrels with no ML and aged sur lie for three months in stainless steel barrels. Kerner Grape Variety. Kerner is a cross of Riesling and Trollinger with origins in Germany. It also makes fine, aromatic whites in the South Tyrol region of Italy. Kerner has been named in honour of a poet and physician from Swabia, Justinus Kerner, whose works included songs and poetry on wine. Kerner lived from 1818 to his death in Weinsberg. |
