| Description: | Winemaking has taken place around Remelluri since at least the 1300s, though the modern winery here was founded on those remnants in 1967 by the father of today's winemaker and viticulturist siblings, Telmo and Amaia Rodriguez. While Telmo has had his own successful forays into wine projects all over Spain, other members of the team have drawn on experiences at the top-of-class Petrus in Bordeaux and Domaine Leflaive in Burgundy. The combined insights give them the ability to better adapt to the vagaries of vineyard, variety, and vintage rather than follow viticultural or winemaking recipes. This is a key to making teruo wines (wines of their place), which is central for them. The "Lindes de Labistida" bottling focuses on organically farmed vineyards near the town of Labastida in the high-altitude Alavesa area of Rioja, which experiences a significantly cooler climate and later harvests. This is a Rioja with more focus on the character of the fruit due to the lighter oak influence: tight-knit, firm, with fine powdery tannins, and a profile reminiscent of dark cherry, plum, licorice and purple flowers. It's a ripely-fruited wine, but not sweetly so. A fine partner with charcuterie and heavy hors d'oeuvre !. Robert Parker 94+ Points - "Produced with grapes from suppliers, the 2018 Lindes de Remelluri Viedos de Labastida comes from a cooler and wetter year not without challenge. A blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano, it fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in barrels of different sizes and origins for 13 months. This is more reticent and serious, with a grainy sensation on the palate, beautifully textured. It has more austere tannins. This is probably the finest vintage for this wine so far. 2018 has produced many great wines." |
