Coppo Barbera d' Asti Camp du Rouss

From Piedmont

Vintage: 2004
Description: "Wonderful aromas of ripe, crushed wild berries. Full-bodied, with soft tannins and a long, luscious aftertaste. Glorious. Drink now. 11,000 cases made." (ws). "The bulked up, sophisticated, dense ruby/purple-tinged 2004 Barbera d'Asti Camp du Rouss reveals hints of its 20% new French oak aging along with sweet aromas of black cherry jam, licorice, smoke, grilled herbs, and meat juices. Fruit-driven with a subtle touch of spice from the new oak, silky tannin, and decent acidity, it is a full-throttle Barbera to drink over the next 3-4 years." (wa). "($22) Good deep red. Bright aromas of bitter cherry and dried berries. Chewy and deep but primary and backward, with a penetrating quality to its slightly medicinal bitter cherry and licorice flavors. Tactile but not at all a sweet style. Finishes sappy, serious and long." (iwc). Winery Notes. A 100% Barbera d'Asti grown in selected hillside vineyards and harvested in September/October. After fermentation, 20% of the wine is aged in new barriques for a period of 12 months, for extra smoothness. Tasting Notes:. Camp du Rouss is deep red in color with garnet highlights. If offers textbook Barbera aromas of crushed cherry and wild berry jam, followed by notes of leather and herbs, and a hint of smoke. On the palate, Camp du Rouss is bright, with luscious, soft tannins. The supple layers of fruit are backed by Barbera's trademark acidity making it the ideal food wine. Recommended with meat in rich wine sauces, roastbeef, cured meats and medium-aged cheese.
