Chateau La Haute Claymore Lussac Saint Emilion

Chateau La Haute Claymore Lussac Saint Emilion

Bordeaux Blend

Vintage: 2011
Description: Wine maker notes Clay soils and slightly calcareous but rather ferruginous soils, giving the wines roundness, power and intense aromas of red fruits. Three grape varieties: Merlot in majority, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Other text The name of Claymore (Scottish great sword) is by itself sufficient to remember the English origins of this historic site where English and French soldiers fought during the One Hundred Years' War. Producer An interaction between climate and the nature of the soil makes the so-called Terroir. In La Claymore vineyard, our vines are planted in a subsoil of sand and clay (molasses du Fronsadais), rich in iron. The 4 hectare pond, extending along at the foot of the slopes, creates a microclimate and attenuates temperature variations, limiting the risk of winter and spring frosts during the growing season. An ideal soil where the Merlot grape reigns. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes have later fructification and grow better on the heights of the hillside, whereas Malbec adapts well at mid-slope near a small forest. All our vines are planted at high density to inhibit their development. This practice also reduces bud production. To limit the yield, the area between the rows of vines is grassed with red fescue. We are willing to maintain the biodiversity of our terroir and we participate in a Qualenvi program of high environmental quality which is tested and certified by a registered testing authority. Treatments are optimized and limited each passing year. We gradually tend to fit mechanical weeding equipment so as to get rid of herbicides in the short term.
