Rolf Binder, Hanisch Shiraz

Vintage: 2002
Description: One of Australias flagship wines, the 2003 Shiraz Hanisch is produced from a warmer vineyard planted in sandy/gravelly/loamy soils. Aged in 30% new French oak, 40% new American oak, and the rest old American wood, it is a full-bodied, classic South Australian Shiraz. It boasts an inky/purple color as well as a gorgeous nose of crushed rocks, blueberries, blackberries, camphor, acacia flowers, pepper, spice, and toasty oak. Dense, chewy, full-bodied, and muscular as well as incredibly pure and elegant for a wine of such size and majesty, it should be approachable in 1-2 years, and age effortlessly for two decades. Very impressive. Note, These wines were formerly sold under the Veritas name, but because of trademark problems, Rolf Binder is in the process of changing his wines labels. In addition, the Veritas Pressings is now called Hubris, the Christa Rolf
