Caparzo Brunello Di Montalcino

Caparzo Brunello Di Montalcino

Vintage: 2016
Description: Caparzo continues to be one of the best-value Brunellos out there, and a superlative vintage like 2016 makes it even better! In fact, Wine Spectator gave it an incredible 96-point score! This is no fly-by-night label that some stores might sell as a "good deal Brunello," this is the real deal. The estate goes back to 1970, one of the first handful to make Brunello when it officially became recognized. Things have changed since 1998 when Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini purchased the property, pursuing an aggressive technological revamping that still respected the character of this distinctive land and the Sangiovese grape. All these efforts have made the style cleaner, with a clearer expression of flavors, and one that is not so imposing to drink upon release. They've also put themselves in the uncommon position of owning vines from different areas around the relatively spacious Montalcino region. As Brunello enthusiasts might know, these bring distinctive characteristics, making the classic Caparzo Brunello a wine that really represents Montalcino in a single package. From the practical side, it also means they can blend the sites according to the strengths and weaknesses of a given vintage. Not that much worry was needed in the ideal 2016 vintage!. This is a wine that is already so balanced and inviting with a 2-hour decant, but which has the concentration in core and quality of structure that will make this even more dangerously drinkable in 5-10 years. Its vibrant, mid-weight character allows it to work as a partner with a variety of dishes, but we think pasta with a tomato-based rag is magic!. Wine Spectator 96 Points - " Ripe, sweet cherry and raspberry fruit are accented by floral, mineral and wild herbs in this alluring red. A backbone of dense, dusty tannins provides support, and the ripe fruit returns on the savory finish. Excellent length.". About the Winery - Caparzo, with owner Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini and winemaker Massimo Bracalente, aims to make top quality products using meticulous and traditional techniques, while at the same time applying a modern outlook in its commercial relations with efficiency and capability. More than thirty years have passed since the first vines were planted and the first steps in winemaking taken. In this period, Caparzo, bolstered by its background in the Brunello tradition and the different terroirs of the area, has proved its ability to produce wines with a creative flair and spirit of innovation that achieves top standards in quality. This explains why Caparzo wines have been chosen by the most famous restaurants in the world and are served at international meetings and official State banquets.
