Murgo Etna Rosso

Murgo Etna Rosso

Red Italian Blend

Vintage: 2018
Description: If I were going to pick an up-and-coming wine region where consumer excitement meets industry enthusiasm and where quality and price converge, I would have to pick the reds of Mt. Etna in Sicily. This largest and most active volcano in Europe offers the perfect climate and soils for viticulture: some of the most coveted soils on the planet lie within the lava fields on Etna's slopes. These unique wines have become commonplace at the trendiest wine bars from New York and Boston to San Francisco and Portland, Oregon. Fascinating and beguiling, wines made from the Sicilian native grape Nerello Mascalese showcase exotic spice and ripe, yet fresh, fruit character impossible to replicate elsewhere. The going rate for Etna reds usually starts in the high teens and goes up from there, so we were pleasantly surprised when this Etna Rosso came across our tasting bar for under thirteen bucks! Concentrated red and black cherry fruits meld with a bright-cranberry tannic structure and cheerful pepper spice. Intrigued by volcanic wine? Here's a great place to start! Food Pairings: Eggplant Manicoti; Black Linguine with Bolognese; Sausage and Mushroom Pizza
