Pra Soave Classico "MONTEGRANDE"
Vintage: | 2021 |
---|---|
Description: | Organically Farmed. 70% Garganega, 30% Trebbiano di Soave. This is a special Soave made by benchmark producer, Pra'. The Garganega grape clusters are partially cut off from the main vine in September, causing them to slightly dry until harvested in October. This concentrates the usually light, lemony, smoky-mineral, lightly waxy-textured character of the variety, making for a complex and structured white with some extra body; the partial drying also contributes more tropical and baked-fruit character. The addition of Trebbiano di Soave (a variant of Verdicchio) provides a beaming, citrusy vein into the wine, along with a light nutty quality that lingers in the finish. Fermenting and aging around 10 months in large Allier oak barrels (3000l) leads to some toasty pastry accents (brioche, shortbread). Importer Notes - "For the Monte Grande, all the grapes come from a single parcel with 70% Garganega and 30% of Trebbiano di Soave (a variant of Verdicchio). The Trebbiano is picked relatively early for freshness, but for the Garganega, after the first waning moon in September, the shoots leading to the grape clusters are cut and the clusters are left to slightly raisinate for another month or so, concentrating both the juice and the acidity. The wine is then fermented and aged in large neutral [barrels] of 15-30 Hl for 10 months, and then held in bottle for a while before release." |
