Gary Farrell "Russian River Selection" Russian River Valley Chardonnay

Chardonnay from Alexander Valley/Russian River

Vintage: 2017
Description: 92 points Wine Enthusiast. This is a wonderfully tart, textured and mineral-driven white from multiple sites across the appellation. Crisp apple and pear wrap around a core of lemon, nutmeg and lemongrass, finishing on a bite of wet stone. *Editors' Choice* (VB) (12/2019) K&L Notes. Gary Farrell's "Russian River Selection" Chadonnay is sourced from a series of A-list vineyards including Bacigalupi, Rochioli, Allen, and Olivet Lane. Some extreme harvest conditions in 2017 drew upon the experience of the winery and growers, and 95% of the grapes came in at optimal ripeness levels as everyone was quick to select and process grapes at the moment they were ready. The wine was aged for 9 months in 35% new French oak before bottling, only racked off the lees a single time -- just before bottling. The winery describes: "It is a true testament to thoughtful winemaking that even in such a warm vintage, this wine shines as brightly as the acidity laced within. It begins with intense aromatics of fresh cut lilies, chive blossoms, zesty lemons, limes and pithy white grapefruit. The abundant citrus on the nose persists on the palate as you are greeted with invigorating notes of freshly squeezed lemon juice, jasmine green tea and spicy wasabi arugula. This all comes together seamlessly on a silky palate with delicate undertones of crème fraîche and Marzipan.".
