| Description: | Crafted utilising fully-ripe, intensely-flavoured and structured Shiraz grapes, the result is a unique Australian style that is now recognised as one of the most consistent of the world's great wines. With an unbroken line of vintages from the experimental 1951, Grange clearly demonstrates the synergy between Shiraz and the soils and climates of South Australia. The 2015 was based on the original 1951 formula with fruit sourced from McLaren Vale, Clare Valley, and the Magill Estate. Although the year started out warm and dry, the summer remained slightly cooler without any rain to perfectly ripen fruit. The 98% Shiraz is complemented in 2% of Cabernet Sauvignon and aged for twenty months in American oak hogshead barrels. An eruption of fruits, lively and expressive. Dark coffee grind, malt, and olive merge with black earth, almost verging on peat. Formidable, meshed tannins allow this wine to stand up to the fullest dishes. Cellar for as long as you can stand it then pair with roasted lamb with fresh rosemary, braised short ribs with caramelized onions, or crumbly Italian cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano. |
