Jean Luc Colombo Cotes Du Rhone Les Abeilles

Vintage: 2018
Description: Our September Wine of the Month is definitely a crowd pleaser! This sun-kissed blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre ( the famed Gsm triumvirate ) boasts plenty of perfectly ripened fruit and is a delicious everyday drinker!. Innovation, passion and dedication are what drives Jean-Luc and Anne Colombo, whose contributions to Rhne Valley winemaking is unparalleled. A devotee of the Syrah grape, Jean-Luc and his wife, Anne, opened the "Centre Oenologique des Ctes du Rhne" in 1984 and quickly developed a thriving reputation as a wine consultant throughout France. For their significant life-long contributions to their country, both Jean-Luc and Anne have been awarded the French Legion of Honor, France's highest civilian award. "Les Abeilles" (The Bees) is named for the bees that inhabit the vineyards in the southern Rhne Valley where this Ctes du Rhne is produced. The bees thrive in these vineyards because no pesticides are used. For this Rhne blend the grapes are grown on 25-year-old vines and harvested manually, then de-stemmed, lightly crushed and fermented in stainless steel tanks. We really enjoyed this wine and thought it the ideal choice for September, a month filled with plenty of sunshine but slowly moving toward Fall weather. The nose is filled with fruit and more: notes of cherry lambic, mixed red and blue berries (cranberry, blueberry), a touch of midnight garden florals, citrus zest, honeydew melon and red licorice. The melange of fruit continues upon tasting: beautifully ripe cherries and berries are bolstered by a hint of rose petal, light earth and a glorious mouthfeel. Amazingly ripe fruit with excellent structure thanks to appropriate acidity and silky tannins. Enjoy solo or with a panoply of dishes: lamb, burgers, roasted chicken, charcuterie, cheeses, and much more!. Wine Enthusiast 90 Points - "Violet perfume, leather and earth collide on the nose of this rich, intensely fruity blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvdre. A fantastic bargain bottling that delivers consistently year after year, it offers plump, pristine cassis flavor etched by smoky, savory complexities. The finish is marked by a whisper of heat. Best enjoyed young."
