Description: | 18 Jr / 89 Vm. Actual bottle shown. Half bottle. François Audouze added two unlabelled half bottles to this dinner at the last minute. Bright mid ruby. Very dense and jagged with some tannin still in evidence! Bone-dry finish. A little austere. But with amazing life for its age. The half bottle I tasted was quite volatile and a little bit dry on the end, but a great old soldier. - Jancis Robinson, June 2013. It has quite a deep colour with a thin tawny rim. I noticed just a touch of oxidation on the nose, although this recedes with time to develop a very Côte de Beaune-like aroma, later manifesting more dusty black fruit mixed with oxtail. The palate is medium-bodied with good definition, quite structured and masculine though without the depth and fruit intensity of the 1928 Latour for example. It is still a privilege to drink such a wine and I suspect there are better examples out there. Tasted blind at Domaine de Chevalier. 89? - Neal Martin, Vinous Media, May 2018. |
