Vasse Felix Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Margaret River

Vasse Felix Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Margaret River

Vintage: 2012
Description: Coming from the ecologically pristine Margaret River area in remote Western Australia, Vasse Felix wines are all about purity and terrior. Founded in 1967, Vasse Felix is the original winery in the region. They started when a wine expert from Uc Davis published a paper detailing the similarities in climate and soil types of Margaret River and Bordeaux, France. This blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot is all about pure fruit and perfectly captures Margaret Rivers pristine wildness in a bottle. The fruit is hand-picked at optimal ripeness from different parcels over a 3 month time frame, ensuring every berry is perfect. The wine is vinified slowly and naturally with wild yeast, with each parcel individually fermented. The nose is high-toned and full of bright minerally black and blue fruits with a wild edge. The fruit is pretty and laser focused, with a nice succulent quality and great extraction without heaviness. It has that trademark tinge of Margaret River wild earthiness as well. Bright red fruits predominate, followed by ripe, strong tannins that, when paired with the perfect natural acidity, provide beautiful structure this wine will age well for up to 10 years. The finish is long and persistent. A unique and delicious wine of suppleness and style that is a revelation and a must try.
