Enjoy its gentle aromas and flavors of ripe apple, hard candy, and flowers with pan-fried, oven-baked bone-in chicken thighs flavored with savory spices and shading of mild chiles. Dr. Loosens non-estate wine embodies the elegant and racy style of classic Mosel Riesling. Refreshing and fruity, with a fine mineral edge that is typical of the region. Dr. L Riesling is made with fruit that comes exclusively from traditional vineyards with steep slopes and slate soil. By working closely with local growers on long-term contract, brothers Ernst and Thomas Loosen are able to maintain excellent quality in every vintage. This wine is made from purchased fruit of some of the neighbors and friends of Ernst Loosen and his brother Thomas, who manages this side of the family wine business. The grapes are all from slate hillside slopes in the Mosel and the 2019er is finished off in a Spatlese level of sweetness and is nicely light on its feet with only 8.5 percent octane. It offers up a pretty nose of apple, white peach, slate and spring flowers. On the palate the wine is medium-bodied, bright and zesty, with a good core, bright acids and nice mineral drive on the long and bouncy finish. This is a lovely entry level bottling. |
