| Description: | For those who love the white wines from the Rhone Valley, we have found a gem of a wine for you, and it might be the best value out of California! After several years learning from and working for some of the Central Coast's most sought-after producers, owner and winemaker Curt Schalchlin decided to go his own way. He rapidly made a name for himself within the "Cal-Rhone Community" as one of the hot new producers of Syrahs, Grenaches, Viognier, and blends, and he's now regarded as one of the stars of the Central Coast. Curt's Cotes du Coast bottling is his take on the white wine blends of the Rhone Valley, but is not constrained by their regional requirements. The fruit he gets is some of the best in the Central Coast, including Bien Nacido, Alta Colina, and White Hawk; vineyards you typically see producing wines 2-3 times this price ! This bottling is comprised of 447% Viognier, 18% Marsanne, 15% Grenache Blanc, 14% Roussanne, and 6% Clairette, fermented in a combination of new French oak, used French oak, and stainless steel barrels. Curt writes his tasting notes like you would visualize a setting. His tasting notes for this wine read: "The afternoon was filled with books & a picnic in the seaside meadow. Satiated by quince & warm buttered sourdough sprinkled with fleur de sel - honeycomb, apricots & marcona almonds, you must have dozed off. You hear a gentle breeze rustling pages nearby and lift your head. The air smells of lime zest and the golden hued strawflowers which surround you." |
