Description: | Wine Enthusiast 96 Points - " Inviting aromas of toasted hazelnut, violet and ripe forest berry waft out of the glass along with a whiff of leather on this stellar red. Firmly structured and elegant, the savory palate is still young and primary but already shows juicy Morello cherry, cranberry, star anise and a hint of coffee bean alongside a backbone of fine-grained tannins. Vibrant acidity keeps it bright and balanced." Drink through 2044. This bottling shows the sturdier, firmer-structured side to the region's aromatically layered, elegant wines. Give it some years in bottle, or decant for a couple hours to allow it to open up a bit. This comes from comes from 25 to 60-year-old vines in the Cotta' vineyard, with southwestern exposure toward the afternoon sun, and calcareous clay with some sand. Aged at least 20 months in German and Austrian oak, which has a subtle impact on the flavors. This family started growing and selling grapes in the 1940s; Albino Rocca then started the winery when he took over the vineyards in the 1960s. |
