| Description: | Cresta Velia is a tiny boutique producer founded by John Giannini. The name of the winery is a nod to his family - combining his mother's maiden name Cresta with his grandmother's first name Velia. He started in the restaurant business as a server at Scalla's restaurant in San Francisco. This is where his love and appreciation for wine grew. Without a formal education in oenology, he was super passionate about learning as much as he could. It also helped that he met Thomas Rivers Brown, his mentor, who hired him to work in the cellar in 2003. He was soon promoted to Assistant Winemaker at Outpost Winery in 2007. Since then, John has helped craft many of the 100 point wines that have come out of Outpost winemaking facility. And while he continues to be the Assistant Winemaker at Outpost, the next logical step was to become a winemaker in his own right; and so Cresta Velia was born. We are incredibly excited with our first effort from this newly planted site on Mount Veeder and feel fortunate to have started with such a heralded vintage. The 2018 Mt. Veeder is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and is made up of clones 685 and 169 that were co-fermented for 14 days.
