Description: | 93 Jm / 92+ Wa / 90-92 Bh. The Rotys have 5 plots in all in this emblematic vineyard for the domaine. The oldest vines date back to 1934, and mostly the original vine stocks remain. There is a brightness to the purple black colour with a vivacity of ripe fruit on the nose. Clearly a much greater density of fruit here, with a succulent ripe cherry note, good acidity as much as tannic structure. Extremely promising, indeed potentially magical. Drink from 2028-2035. Tasted: November 2022.-Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy. The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Champs-Chenys Vieilles Vignes is the most serious of Roty's lieu-dit bottlings, unwinding in the glass with aromas of sweet cherries, blackberries, spices, licorice and rose petal. Medium to full-bodied, layered and velvety, it's deep and concentrated, with ripe tannins and a complete, seamless profile.--William Kelley, The Wine Advocate. Tasting note: Once again, the expressive and layered nose is notably ripe while managing to retain good freshness to the baked plum, cassis and spice aromas. There is excellent density to the intense, sappy and palate coating medium-bodied flavors that terminate in a bitter pit fruit, austere and very firm finale. This too is a fine Gevrey villages that is an impressive combination of refinement and power. Outstanding. Top Value.-Allen Meadows, Burghound. |
