Coltibuono 'RS' Cultusboni Chianti Classico

Coltibuono 'RS' Cultusboni Chianti Classico

Vintage: 2019
Description: Our Wine of the Month 2 for February is a delightfully classy, high-acid, elegantly fruitful gem that easily deserves the 92 Points awarded by Antonio Galloni. Don't let the reasonable price point fool you!! This is a serious wine that had us craving Bolognese sauces, Osso Buco and bone marrow shooters to pair with it (or a mid-week mushroom pizza, roasted game birds or tri-tip!). Don't forget the fatty cheeses, charcuterie and other rich apps. And while the initial wash of acidity is quite broad, our palates were in love after a few sips-- this is the ballerina who's strong as a linebacker, beauty backed up by brawn (but the beauty shines through in wonderful ripe fruits!). And the elephant in the room? This wine comes from Badia a Coltibuono, an iconic Italian winery that has graced our shelves and palates (and those of our customers!) for many, many years. Fan favorite? You bet. Ripe fruits, mostly red, fill the nose of Cultusboni. Think cherry lambic, persimmon and strawberries. Secondary savory notes fill in: light earth, mint, rosebush, lots of hillside garrique and wildflowers. Upon tasting, the bright fruits make their presence known as does the ample acidity. Cherries and blueberries are tempered with wood tones and notes of earth, light spice and a touch of rose water. The finish is lengthy and filled with reiterations from the nose and palate: sweet cherries, mixed red berries and briar notes. This is a great wine for the colder months as we all (tend to) eat heartier fare and need a bit of acidity to cut through the richness. This is the one!!. Antonio Galloni; Vinous 92 Points - "The 2019 Chianti Classico Rs Cultusboni is deep, fleshy and super-expressive. Tobacco, cedar and dried autumn leaves give the 2019 lovely aromatic presence. Deceptive in its mid-weight feel, the 2019 is beautifully layered and resonant from start to finish. It is another impressive wine in this range from Badia a Coltibuono. The 2019 is positively stellar and one of the best wines I have tasted here in some time."
