Winery: | Guerrieri Gonzaga Tenuta San Leonardo |
Description: | Though founded in 1724, Tenuta San Leonardo has a long and colorful history. This august estate is located in Trentino, midway between Verona and Trento, and it sits on land that monks used to grow grapes as far back as1250 AD. The monastery's hanging arches, frescoes and refectory remain, and this is where Tenuta San Leonardo ages their barrels of wine. In recent history, Marchese Anselmo Guerrieri Gonzaga was inspired by Tenuta San Guido's Sassicaia to create a Bordeaux-style blend. With the 1982 vintage, San Leonardo's flagship wine was born, and a year later, Carlo, the son of Anselmo, asked Piero Antinori for the help of Giacomo Tachis, the guiding force behind the Super-Tuscan revolution to make it even better. By 1987, the San Leonardo flagship was garnering global fame and fans. Today's Tenuta San Leonardo still sits in the Gonzaga family, and it spans more than 740 acres not far from Lake Garda, where it produces a full range of extraordinary wines for enthusiasts, collectors, and people like you. |
