Unfortunately, the grape is all-too-often encountered in nightmarishly overblown caricature, bursting with musky spice and sorely lacking in acidity. This Roannaise offering from Stéphane Serol, however, is tirelessly true to the grape's heritage and potential for elegance, showing clarity and subtlety in addition to exoticism and concentration.
